Receive a tax receipt for eligible item donations
Do you have a rare or valuable item that you’d like to donate to FOPLA? Tax-deductible gifts-in-kind (GIK) are non-cash gifts that have a higher value than our normally accepted items. Accepted items include:
Tax receipts will only be issued for GIK donations with a fair market value greater than $500 CAD. Please note we do not accept donations of encyclopedia. If you would like to receive a tax receipt for your GIK donation, please follow the steps below:
Valuation Process
Tax-deductible gifts-in-kind valued at less than $1,000 CAD
FOPLA will select an internal appraiser (determined by the GIK Committee) for each donation valued at less than $1,000 CAD to determine fair market value.
Tax-deductible gifts-in-kind valued at $1,000 CAD or greater
The Donor must submit an original signed certificate from an independent appraiser. An independent appraisal is required from a qualified and knowledgeable expert, with the cost of the independent appraisal to be borne by the potential Donor. The original signed certificate will be copied by FOPLA, and the original will be returned to the Donor.
