Where to donate
Small volumes of books can always be donated to FOPLA through any of the Ottawa Public Library Branches. Larger volume donations should be brought to the FOPLA Distribution Center, following the instructions below.
By appointment ONLY at the James Bartleman Centre (100 Tallwood Drive). Please call (613) 580-2424 Extension 27875 Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and a volunteer will be happy to help you.
Our donation appointments schedule offers 3 appointments daily, Monday to Friday, at the following times:
- 10 h 30
- 11 h 30
- 12 h 30
Donors are asked to drive around to the main entrance in the back parking lot and pull up to the wide sidewalk and stop at the sign that reads “Friends Donation Drop-Off/Kind Reads Pick-up” and call 613-580-2424, extension 27875 (the same number you called to make your appointment) and one of the volunteers will come out and get your boxes.
Donations should be packaged in small boxes with a maximum dimensions of 15 “x 12” x 10 “(e.g. LCBO box or bankers boxes (maximum size)). Do not donate in large plastic bags or large, heavy boxes as we have limited space and we have to be able to stack and lift the boxes with the ability to protect our volunteers from any injury.
Items that do not meet our current donation criteria, that are not in acceptable condition, or that are not presented in suitable boxes, may be refused at your appointment – we do NOT want to have to do this.
We ask for your cooperation and follow our requirements outlined here.
