University of Ottawa
FOPLA SCHOLARSHIP FOR DIVERSITY AND EQUITY IN PUBLIC LIBRARIANSHIP (711200107231)
This scholarship was created by the Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association (FOPLA) to
support racialized or Indigenous students and encourage them to pursue their education and
careers in an essential library sector, public libraries.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a person with protected/refugee status;
2. be admitted as a full-time or part-time graduate student in the Master of Information Studies
program at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ottawa; and
3. provide documented proof of Indigenous identity, in accordance with the requirements of the
University of Ottawa Eligibility for Focused Admissions, Scholarships, and Bursaries for First
Nations, Inuit, and Métis People administrative procedure;
OR
be a racialized person (member of a visible minority) and defined as a person other than
Indigenous (Aboriginal), who is non-white in colour or race, regardless of place of birth or
citizenship.

Barbara-Clubb Scholarship in Information Studies (712200102836)
This scholarship was created in honour of Barbara Clubb, a former City Librarian in Ottawa. The scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student at the University of Ottawa’s School of Information Studies who has work or volunteer experience in a library.
Value of the award: Minimum $1,000
Level or program of study: Master’s
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a person with the protected/refugee status;
- Be registered as a full-time or part-time student in Master’s of Information Studies at the School of Information Studies of the University of Ottawa;
- Have a good academic record;
- Be a resident of the National Capital Region, including Gatineau; and
- Have work or volunteer experience in a library.

Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Endowment Fund (712240302151)
This fund was established to honour the founders of the Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association (FOPLA), and to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the friends groups who amalgamated in FOPLA into 2003.
The fund, established for the School of Information Studies of the University of Ottawa, is designated to provide financial aid to students who wish to obtain a graduate degree or diploma in Information Studies at the University of Ottawa and is awarded annually.
Value of the Award: Minimum $2,000 for a full-time student; Minimum $1,000 for part-time student
Level of the Award: Graduate
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must:
- Be registered either as a full-time or part-time student in the Master’s of Information Studies program or the Graduate Diploma in Information Studies program at the School of Information Studies at the University of Ottawa;
- Be in good academic standing; and
- Demonstrate involvement in a recognized literacy organization.

Algonquin College
FOPLA Award for Diversity and Equity in Public Librarianship
This award was created by the Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association (FOPLA) to support racialized or Indigenous students to pursue their education and careers in an essential library sector, public libraries.
The FOPLA Award for Diversity and Equity in Public Librarianship is given to a student who self-identifies as a member of a racialized or Indigenous community with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and enrolled in their first semester of the Library and Information Technician program.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be registered full-time
- Applicants must have a minimum of 3.0 grade point average
- Domestic (Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person/convention refugee) students are encouraged to apply
- Applicants must be enrolled in their first semester of the Library and Information Technician program offered at the Ottawa Campus

Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Bursary
This one-time donation of $12,500 in 2011, which was matched by the Ontario Trust for Student Support program, resulted in a total fund of $25,000. An annual bursary of $1000 is awarded to students of Algonquin College’s Library and Information Technician program.
