April 23-29, 2017 marks National Volunteer Week in Canada, meaning there’s no better time to highlight the time, talent, and hard work devoted by our more than 300 volunteers all across Ottawa.
FOPLA is over 99% volunteer-run, meaning the work we do would not be possible without the dedication of our volunteers. They manage and run our 26 used book locations, act as our Board and Committee members, and keep our distribution centre and monthly Mammoth Sale running smoothly.
Our volunteers sort, shelve, lift, scan, price, sell, manage, promote, translate, and plan every week of the year to help make FOPLA’s mission a reality.
Because of the strength of our volunteers, FOPLA has donated more than $2.7 million to the Ottawa Public Library since 2003. As we continue to grow our efforts to support Ottawa’s public libraries, our volunteers will continue to be the foundation for all our success.
We want to take this opportunity to thank all of our volunteers. Thank you for sharing your time and skills with us. Thank you for believing, as we do, that literacy and lifelong learning play a vital role in our community.
Most of all, thank you for being a Friend to Ottawa’s public libraries.
As a small gesture of thanks, our volunteers participated this week in volunteer tea afternoons with volunteers from the Ottawa Public Library. Taking place in library branches across Ottawa, the teas were an opportunity for volunteers to connect, be recognized, and enjoy some well-deserved refreshments.
If you’re interested in becoming a friend to Ottawa’s libraries by donating your time to volunteer with FOPLA, check out our current volunteer openings here. For more information, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
